What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid (filler) is a natural hydrophilic component of the skin. It has the ability to attract water and thus gives hydration and volume to the parts of the face that are defining features of youth. However, over time, this ability weakens, as a result of which the skin loses its moisture and volume, the skin becomes drier and thinner, and the skin cells regenerate much more slowly. In this phase, synthetic hyaluronic acid comes in to replace the loss of the natural one.

  • Avoid drinking alcohol at least 3-4 days before the treatment.
  • To minimize the chances of bruising at the injection sites, avoid taking anticoagulants (unless medically necessary) one week before and three days after the application. This category includes aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oils, as well as vitamin E supplements, Ginseng, Ginkgo Biloba and St John’s wort.
  • Do not perform the treatment 1-2 days before an important event, because there may still be bruises or swelling at the injection sites. You are advised to schedule it one week in advance.
  • Avoid intense physical activity for the next 1-2 days after application so that any swelling of the area does not intensify
  • Do not massage the injection sites unless recommended by your doctor. If you press on the points, it is possible that the hyaluronic inside will feel hard. If you attempt to massage it to soften it, without the doctor’s advice, you run the risk of displacing it, causing unwanted results. It is normal the hard sense of the material to last up to a week.
  • You can apply your makeup as always
  • Avoid drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours, as it can cause inflammation. Instead, it is recommended to drink plenty of water.
  • To limit any swelling in the area, be sure to keep your head higher while sleeping by using a second pillow.
  • If you experience bruising at the injection sites, you can apply arnica cream topically or take arnica pills for at least 4 days.
  • Avoid sun exposure while you have bruises.
  • If there is swelling at the injection sites, you can relieve it by applying a cold compress to the area up to 4 times a day, for 5 minutes each time.
